The Single Mom's Me Time Book Review Blog

As a full time working single mom of a 5 year old little girl...I really don't get much 'ME TIME'! My favorite thing to do in the world when I get some me time is to read. I loved to read and review mostly romance books.

The Cowboys Mail Order Bride, Carolyn Brown, Cowboys & Brides book 3

I am having a hard time rating and reviewing this book.  At times I found myself really charmed by the story and the characters…then at other times I became annoyed especially when the author suddenly changed the POV.  It would leave me confused for a few pages and then I would get into the story again.  However, storyline was creative and it was cute read.

Emily Cooper‘s grandfather makes her promise on his deathbed to deliver a box of old letters to Clarice Baron.  All of the letters had been delivered but one so Emily shows up to Clarice’s Texas ranch, with the bundle of letters, not knowing what kind of reception she will receive.  Emily is welcomed into Clarice’s home and Emily is quite taken with a picture of Clarice’s grandson, Greg Adams.  Clarice and her friends have been trying to get Greg to settle down with a wife for years.  When she finds out Emily is on vacation she quickly offers her a job as her personal assistant job to give her the opportunity to play matchmaker between Greg and Emily.  Greg is not happy to find out his grandmother has let this stranger move in and work for her ever if she is beautiful.  However, when he attempts to uncover Emily’s lies he finds out she may be just the women he is looking for.

I thought the premise of this story was sweet and it really could have been a great story.  I think what was missing is the exploration of the letters between the two older people of the story.  I felt it was glossed over and I feel the story would have worked better if it would have been explored.  Greg and Emily were attracted to each other from the get go and I did like their story.  I also thought it was cute his grandmother and her friend were pushing them in the right direction.  Again the abrupt changes in POV did not work for me at all and lost me sometimes in the story.

I really could have loved this book!  I really think the old letters not being explored was a huge disappointment for me.   I would recommend this book for someone who wants a quick and doesn’t mind a few flaws in their story.
